Hey There, Let's Talk Privacy

Look, we get it - nobody actually enjoys reading privacy policies. But since you're trusting us with your wilderness adventure (and your personal details), we figured you deserve to know exactly what we do with your information.

At Feral Thorn Empire, we've built our reputation on honest dealings and respecting the wild spaces around us. That same respect extends to your privacy. No sneaky stuff, no selling your email to random companies, just straightforward info on what we collect and why.

This policy covers everything from booking your cabin to signing up for our wildlife photography tours. If something doesn't make sense, just give us a shout at reservations@feralthornempire.info

Alright, here's the deal on what info we gather when you book with us:

Personal Details
  • Your name, email, and phone number (kinda need these to confirm your booking)
  • Mailing address if you're doing a reservation or want us to send you stuff
  • Payment information - though we don't actually store your full credit card numbers, that's handled by our secure payment processor
  • Dietary restrictions or allergies for our farm-to-table dining experiences
  • Emergency contact info (just in case you get a bit too adventurous out there)
Booking & Preference Info
  • Which cabin or experience package you're interested in
  • Dates you wanna visit and how many folks are coming along
  • Special requests like anniversary celebrations or accessibility needs
  • Past stays and activities (helps us recommend stuff you'll actually enjoy)
Technical Stuff
  • IP address and browser type when you visit our website
  • Cookies and similar tech to keep the site running smooth
  • Pages you visit and how long you hang around (tells us what's interesting)

We're not collecting this stuff just for fun - here's what we actually do with it:

Running Your Reservations

Pretty obvious, but we use your contact details to confirm bookings, send you check-in info, and generally make sure your stay goes smoothly. We'll text or email you with updates about your reservation.

Making Your Experience Better

If you've told us you're vegetarian, we're gonna make sure our chef knows before you show up for dinner. If you loved the wildlife photography tour last time, we might let you know when we've got new spots opening up.

Keeping You in the Loop

We'll send booking confirmations, pre-arrival info, and the occasional email about new experiences or seasonal offerings. Don't worry, we're not gonna spam you - maybe once a month tops, and you can unsubscribe anytime.

Legal & Safety Stuff

Sometimes we gotta keep records for tax purposes or if there's a legal requirement. And if there's ever a safety issue during an expedition, we need accurate emergency contact info on file.

Improving Our Services

We look at booking patterns and feedback to figure out what's working and what needs tweaking. All this analysis is done with anonymized data - we're looking at trends, not individual behaviors.

We're pretty protective of your information. Here's the short list of who might see it:

Service Providers

Our payment processor (for handling credit card transactions), email service provider (for sending you booking confirmations), and booking system. These folks are contractually bound to keep your info secure and can't use it for their own purposes.

Tour Guides & Staff

If you've booked a guided expedition or photography tour, our guides need to know your name and any relevant safety info. They're all trained on privacy protocols and treat your info with respect.

Legal Requirements

If a court order or government agency legally requires us to hand over information, we'll comply - but we'll fight unnecessary requests and only provide what's absolutely required by law.

Business Transfers

In the unlikely event we sell the resort or merge with another company, your information would be part of that transfer. But any new owner would still be bound by this privacy policy.

What We DON'T Do: We never sell your email addresses or personal info to marketing companies, data brokers, or anyone else looking to make a buck off your details. That's not how we roll.

Yeah, we use cookies - not the delicious kind from our farm-to-table kitchen, but the digital ones that help our website function properly.

Essential Cookies

These keep the site working - things like remembering what's in your booking cart or keeping you logged in. Can't really turn these off without breaking the website.

Analytics Cookies

We use these to see which pages people visit most, where folks are dropping off in the booking process, and generally how to make the site better. It's all anonymous aggregate data.

Preference Cookies

These remember your settings like language preferences or if you've dismissed certain popups. Makes your experience smoother on return visits.

Managing Cookies: You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers let you refuse cookies or delete existing ones. Just be aware that some parts of our website might not work as smoothly if you do.

We don't use third-party advertising cookies, so you won't get those creepy "this ad is following me around the internet" experiences from us.

Security isn't just about keeping bears out of the cabins - we take digital security seriously too.

Encryption

All data transmitted to and from our website is encrypted using SSL/TLS technology. That little padlock icon in your browser? That's your friend. Payment information goes through PCI-compliant processors with bank-level encryption.

Access Controls

Only staff who actually need access to your information can see it. Our housekeeping team doesn't need your credit card info, and our guides only see what's relevant to your safety and experience.

Regular Security Audits

We regularly review our systems and update security protocols. Think of it like maintaining the trails - regular upkeep prevents bigger problems down the line.

Real Talk: No system is 100% secure - anyone who tells you otherwise is lying. But we do everything reasonably possible to protect your information and we'll notify you promptly if there's ever a breach affecting your data.

This is your data, and you've got rights. Here's what you can do:

Access Your Information

You can request a copy of what personal data we have on file for you. Just email us and we'll send it over within 30 days.

Correct Inaccuracies

Spelled your name wrong in our system? Address changed? Let us know and we'll update it right away.

Delete Your Data

Want us to erase your information? We'll do it, though we might need to keep some records for legal/accounting purposes for a certain period.

Opt Out of Marketing

There's an unsubscribe link at the bottom of every promotional email. One click and you're off the list - no hard feelings.

Data Portability

Need your data in a format you can use elsewhere? We can provide it in a commonly used, machine-readable format.

Object to Processing

You can object to how we're using your data in certain situations. We'll review your request and respond accordingly.

To exercise any of these rights:

Email us at reservations@feralthornempire.info or call (250) 847-3920. We'll verify your identity and process your request as quickly as possible.

We don't keep your data forever - that'd be weird and unnecessary. Here's our general approach:

Active Guest Records

If you've stayed with us or have an upcoming reservation, we keep your information active to provide better service and honor any loyalty programs or repeat guest benefits.

Inactive Accounts

If you haven't booked with us or engaged with our emails in 3 years, we'll archive your data. After 5 years of inactivity, we'll delete it entirely unless there's a legal reason to keep it longer.

Financial Records

Tax laws require us to keep booking and payment records for 7 years. After that, they're securely destroyed.

Marketing Lists

If you've signed up for our newsletter but never booked, we'll keep sending occasional emails for 2 years. After that, if there's no engagement, we'll remove you from the list.

Our resort welcomes families, but our website isn't designed for kids to use independently.

We don't knowingly collect personal information directly from anyone under 13 without parental consent. If you're booking for your family, you're providing the information as the parent or guardian.

For youth programs or junior adventure packages, we collect only what's necessary for safety and participation - things like age, allergies, and emergency contacts. Parents always have the right to review, update, or delete their child's information.

If we discover we've accidentally collected data from a child without proper consent, we'll delete it immediately. Parents can contact us anytime at reservations@feralthornempire.info with concerns.

We're located in beautiful British Columbia, Canada, and that's where your data is stored - on Canadian servers under Canadian privacy laws (PIPEDA, if you're into acronyms).

If you're booking from outside Canada, your information will be transferred to and processed in Canada. Canadian privacy laws are pretty solid, but they might differ from your home country's regulations.

For EU/UK Visitors

Canada has been recognized by the European Commission as providing adequate data protection. If you're coming from the EU or UK, you've got additional rights under GDPR, and we'll honor those.

For US Visitors

If you're in California, you've got rights under CCPA. If you're in another state with privacy laws, we'll respect those too. Just reach out and let us know what you need.

Privacy laws change, our business evolves, and sometimes we need to update this policy to reflect that reality.

When we make changes, we'll update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. For minor tweaks (like fixing typos or clarifying existing practices), that might be all we do.

For significant changes that affect how we handle your data, we'll notify you directly via email if we have your contact info. We might also post a notice on our homepage for a while.

We encourage you to check this page occasionally, especially before booking. If you continue using our services after changes are posted, we'll take that as acceptance of the updated policy.
